The Book Of Mormon West Hollywood reviews
Not what I was expecting
I have watched more than 10 musicals, some of them more than once, so I had fair expectations.
The musical itself is shockingly rude. I guess it's so unusual for Americans to hear something so rude and open about the problems that everybody is aware of, but does not dare to talk about, plus it is touching on the topics of religion, underdeveloped countries, and this is where the whole humour part is evolving. But. Coming from a different continent, from Europe, where people are more relaxed about making fun about world problems, I did not see how it was fun in the musical? I barely smiled a couple of times.
The music is great, the actors are great (no surprises here).
I want to put a separate note about the theatre. Normally, even if you get not very expensive (not very close to the stage) tickets, you are able to see it very well, because of the way the seats are located (elevated rows, where the back row is always higher than the front row, plus each seat is located between the seats in row in front, so you don't end up seating directly behind someone, but in between two people). But not in Eugene O'Neill Theatre! We had quite expensive tickets ($ 300 for two) and sat in row R, but I could not see anything because of the person in front of me, who was tall! And because seats are not elevated, and not set in between two seats, but directly one behind another, it was a disaster. So if you have anyone tall seating in front of you - good luck watching the musical, it will be ruined.
